This year’s Emmy Awards will welcome the arrival of a canopy of solar panels designed by SolarWorld Americas. Fox in partnership with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences have decided to go green this year by providing power to the awards show using solar energy. Even the red carpet has been made using recycled material. Later on, the solar panels will be gifted to the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles who will use them to power homes with clean energy. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles is an organization who goes all out to provide affordable, alternative energy resources to millions of households who are in dire need of it.
It is the first time when an 50 kilowatt solar system has made a grand entry at an entertainment event as popular as the Emmy’s. As Kevin Kilkelly, president of SolarWorld Americas, puts it “This year’s show will mark the historical moment when solar power made its debut in American popular culture.”
The solar panels will be the biggest installation to power an awards event. In fact, the chief aim behind the installation is not to power the awards show, but to make people aware of the positive advantages of solar energy. SolarWorld Americas hopes people will be encouraged to switch to solar energy after witnessing the advantages of clean, renewable energy.
Along with the solar panels installation, FOX has collaborated with Kinetic Lighting to set up Prism Projection RevEAL Studio LED lighting fixtures that will use only 20% of the power consumption during the award show.
Furthermore, the food waste will be composted while recyclable materials will stacked away.
